Sliabh Beagh Arts

At the Heart of Rural Creativity

The overarching aim for Sliabh Beagh Arts is the development and implementation of a series of community Arts programmes which address the social, creative, economic, cultural, environmental and good relations needs within the area. We are dedicated to providing high quality arts activity, promoting the use of creativeness as a means of enriching the lives of the rural communities involved. Our programs aim to promote the importance of our physical and personal environment, looking to the rural for inspiration and exploring the culture in AgriCULTURE.

All of our projects are innovative and we try to bring something special to the area every year.

Artist: Annie June Callaghan / Sean McGeogh

The Sliabh Beagh hedgerows offer a valuable habitat for wildlife, amongst many other benefits, and we’re working to protect them and create more. Not only are they beautiful, with shifting seasonal colours, but they also benefit the wider environment. They store carbon and help slow climate change. The Climate Change Committee has called for a 40% increase in the extent of hedge rows by 2050 to address the current climate emergency.

We aim to create a large fedge within fardross forest. A fedge is a cross between a fence and a hedge made from woven willow. Within the fedge a series of small sculptural pieces will rest. Artists Sean Mcgeogh and Annie June Callaghna will create the piece to depict the diverse wildlife that exists within the hedgerows, highlighting the need to preserve and protect. We will encourage young peopl to get involved through a series of willow creature workshops. They can create and place their pieces into the fedge independently and in a socially distanced safe way!
